Welcome to Speak Up.
Freedom depends on Truth. It also depends on the right of free speech and the right of freedom of the press. The latter includes anything written, printed or published.
We, the people, must speak up or we will lose our freedoms. We must take a stand in any way we find possible, and legal, to let our views and grievances be known. Only in this way can democracy continue.
I am Liberal. I intend to use this blog to speak up.
Here is where I will speak up about the issues presented to us by the President and the Congress. I will refer frequently to the documents written by the Founding Fathers. You may not like what I say, but I hope you will consider it.
Try this if you feel disappointed, or even betrayed, by the election on November 8, 2016:
Contact your Senator and let him/her know you expect your reproductive rights to be protected in this coming year. Do this even if you’re contacting a Republican. You are, after all, a constituent, no matter what your party affiliation. Call, text, email, write. It’s your right.
I’d like to point out that in the quote above, FDR mentions two things that apply to the 2016 election. First, that the Republicans want to weaken the government, to make it smaller. Second, that the election of Trump (who “LOVES the uneducated” as he stated in the campaign) demonstrates the consequences of having an uninformed electorate.
By the way, apathy is a poison to freedom. Rachel Maddow reported that 49% of qualified voters did not vote. How much better would our future be if only they had.
